Nutrition based on TCM

Nutrition forms the basis for the development of the five basic substances in all living beings, which in turn are essential for maintaining balance in the body.

Therefore, nutrition has a major influence on illness, health maintenance, and therapy.

TCM attributes taste, effect, and temperature to all foods, which also have an effect on specific organs/tissues.

A distinction is made between cold, cool, neutral, warm, and hot temperatures.

While neutral foods have a balancing and harmonizing effect and act as a mediator between cool and warm food components, warm and hot foods compensate for a yang deficiency. Cool and cold foods restore balance to the body in the event of a yin deficiency.

In nutrition according to TCM, herbs and foods with different temperature behaviors are combined to avoid upsetting the balance between yin and yang.

Yang is the epitome of warmth and dryness, fundamental to vitality.

Yin, on the other hand, symbolizes cold and moisture, fundamental to restful sleep.

Any disharmonies are diagnosed by the TCVM therapist. The nutrition plan is always designed to counteract the corresponding pattern of disharmony in order to restore the balance between yin and yang.
